Getting back into it!

Well after the hours of writng the 1st assignment finally back onto the blog. I found the readings for the assignment very useful, not just for Uni but how I look at my own library.  Some great ideas, some that I hope to implement!  I thought the Information skills in the school: engaging learners in constructing knowledge (NEALS) a fantastic poster and one that outlines the The Information Process (ISP) particularly sucinctly. I also have a copy of the ASLA (NSW) Bloom’s Digital Taxonomy poster next to my desk, certainly recomend it as it is clear, precise and USEFUL!

What a week!

Not sure where this week went. After spending the previous Friday listening to Joyce Valenza I arrived at school inspired to start doing ‘stuff’. Well more and newer ‘stuff’. It took about 2 minutes to realise that week was not going to be about the library. I am a member of the Schools ISO accreditation team and auditing team and we were being aduited on the following week! Lots of last minute paperwork and follow ups. HOWEVER, even though it adds to the workload it is another area the library is being seen. Get out here and be seen I say! It also helps in management understanding what we do as I have to outline our policies, plans and directions to the ISO auditors which is fed into management! Quite useful!

Joyce Valenza

I was privileged ( and I don’t use that word lightly) to attend the Dr.Joyce Valenza Conference in Melbourne last week. Joyce is an inspiring leader and epitomises al that a TL should be. One of the great things is her sharing of knowledge so that we don’;t have to re-invent the wheel but become a supporting library community. Personal knowledge and skills can often be used as a ‘power tool’ staff hold onto knowledge as they feel they are then ‘more important or useful’..On the other hand I don’t know how she fits in any other life! The time it must take to master, invent, support all the ‘things’ she does. For me that is the biggest problem, time! If you have the chance to hear her speak, go for it, you won’t be disappointed!

Getting it right!

Well, I am not sure what I am doing with the blog but I think it needs smartening up somewhat. Have to find an image that fits, the one that I chose of the mediaeval library in Zutphen NL doesn’t quite work! However, I will add a link if anyone is interested in looking at an amazing Mediaeval library that I was lucky enough to visit while living in The Netherlands.  The library still houses the original books chained to the pews; Amazing! Unfortunately it is written in Dutch but the photo of the books is fantastic.
